5 - Al-Maaida (The Table) / 1 Next Verse
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَوْفُوا بِالْعُقُودِ ۚ أُحِلَّتْ لَكُمْ بَهِيمَةُ الْأَنْعَامِ إِلَّا مَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ غَيْرَ مُحِلِّي الصَّيْدِ وَأَنْتُمْ حُرُمٌ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَحْكُمُ مَا يُرِيدُِ
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo awfoo bialAAuqoodi ohillat lakum baheematu alanAAami illa ma yutla AAalaykum ghayra muhillee alssaydi waantum hurumun inna Allaha yahkumu ma yureedu

    O you
  • ٱلَّذِينَ
    who
  • ءَامَنُوٓاْ
    believe!
  • أَوۡفُواْ
    Fulfil
  • بِٱلۡعُقُودِ‌ۚ
    the contracts.
  • أُحِلَّتۡ
    Are made lawful
  • لَكُم
    for you
  • بَہِيمَةُ
    the quadruped
  • ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ
    (of) the grazing livestock
  • إِلَّا
    except
  • مَا
    what
  • يُتۡلَىٰ
    is recited
  • عَلَيۡكُمۡ
    on you,
  • غَيۡرَ
    not
  • مُحِلِّى
    being permitted
  • ٱلصَّيۡدِ
    (to) hunt
  • وَأَنتُمۡ
    while you
  • حُرُمٌ‌ۗ
    (are in) Ihram.
  • إِنَّ
    Indeed,
  • ٱللَّهَ
    Allah
  • يَحۡكُمُ
    decrees
  • مَا
    what
  • يُرِيدُ
    He wills.
Abdel Haleem : You who believe, fulfil your obligations. Livestock animals are lawful as food for you, with the exception of what is about to be announced to you. You are forbidden to kill game while you are on pilgrimage––God commands what He will,
Ahmed Ali : You, you those who believed, fulfill/complete with the contracts; four legged creatures of land and sea except lions (beasts) (of) the camel/livestock is permitted/allowed for you, except what is read/recited on you, not permitting/allowing the hunt/fishing and you are forbidden/respecting for pilgrimage , that God judges/rules what He wills/wants.
Muhammad Ahmed - Samira : O YOU WHO believe, fulfil your obligations. Made lawful (as food) for you are animals except those mentioned (here); but unlawful during Pilgrimage is game. God ordains whatsoever He wills.
Aisha Bewley : You who have iman! fulfil your contracts. All livestock animals are halal for you, except those that are recited to you now; but it is still not halal to hunt while you are in ihram. Allah makes whatever judgements He wills.
Ali Quli Qara'i : O you who have faith! Keep your agreements. You are permitted animals of grazing livestock, except what is [now] announced to you, disallowing game while you are in pilgrim sanctity. Indeed Allah decrees whatever He desires.
Ali Ünal : O you who believe! Fulfill the bonds (you have entered into with God and with people). Lawful for you is the flesh of cattle (grazing beasts of the flock), save what is mentioned to you (herewith), and unlawful (for you is) hunted game when you are in the state of pilgrim sanctity. Assuredly, God decrees as He wills.
Amatul Rahman Omar : O you who believe! abide by all (your) obligations. All quadrupeds (of the class) of cattle (and feeding on plants) are made lawful to you (for food) other than those which are enumerated to you (as forbidden). Yet you are forbidden (to kill) game whilst in a pilgrim's garb or in the Sacred Precincts. Verily, Allâh decrees what He intends.
Arthur John Arberry : O believers, fulfil your bonds. Permitted to you is the beast of the flocks, except that which is now recited to you, so that you deem not game permitted to be hunted when you are in pilgrim sanctity. God decrees whatsoever He desires.
Bijan Moeinian : O’ you who believe, fulfill your obligations toward God (and obey His laws.) It is lawful for you to eat livestock, except those mentioned herein. It is prohibited to hunt (and eat the hunted animal) while you are performing the pilgrimage to Mecca ceremonies.
Edward Henry Palmer : O ye who believe! fulfill your compacts. - Lawful for you are brute beasts, save what is here recited to you, not allowing you the chase while ye are on pilgrimage; verily, God ordaineth what He will.
Faridul Haque : O People who Believe! Fulfil your words (agreements); the mute animals are made lawful for you (to eat) except what will be declared to you after this, but do not assume hunting as lawful when you are on the pilgrimage; indeed Allah commands whatever He wills.
George Sale : O true believers, perform your contracts. Ye are allowed to eat the brute cattle, other than what ye are commanded to abstain from, except the game which ye are allowed at other times, but not while ye are on pilgrimage to Mecca; God ordaineth that which He pleaseth.

Hasan Al-Fatih Qaribullah : Believers, fulfill your obligations. It is lawful for you (to eat the flesh of) the beast among cattle other than that which is recited to you, hunting is forbidden while you are on pilgrimage. Allah decrees what He will.
John Medows Rodwell : O BELIEVERS! be faithful to your engagements. You are allowed the flesh of cattle other than what is hereinafter recited, except game, which is not allowed you while ye are on pilgrimage. Verily, God ordaineth what he pleaseth.
Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali : O you who have believed, fulfil your contracts. The brute of cattle (Ancam = cattle, camels, sheep and goats) has been made lawful to you, except whatever is (now) recited to you without violating the prohibition against (game) hunting (Literally: making hunting lawful) when you are in pilgrim sanctity (i.e. whether in the Inviolable precincts or in the special garment). Surely Allah judges (according to) whatever He wills.

Maulana Muhammad Ali : O you who believe, fulfil the obligations. The cattle quadrupeds are allowed to you except that which is recited to you, not violating the prohibition against game when you are on the pilgrimage. Surely Allah orders what He pleases.
Muhammad Asad : O YOU who have attained to faith! Be true to your covenants! Lawful to you is the [flesh of every] beast that feeds on plants, save what is mentioned to you [hereinafter]: but you are not allowed to hunt while you are in the state of pilgrimage. Behold, God ordains in accordance with His will.
Muhammad Sarwar : Believers, stand by your contracts (and obligations). Of all animals, cattle has been made lawful for you as food with certain exceptions. Hunting is not lawful for you during ihram (a part of the rituals during pilgrimage). God decrees as He wills.
Muhammad Taqi Usmani : O you who believe, fulfill the contracts. The animals from the cattle have been made lawful for you, except that which shall be read over to you, provided that you do not treat hunting as lawful while you are in IHram. Surely, Allah ordains what He wills.
[Al-Muntakhab] : O you whose hearts have been touched with the divine hand: Keep to your word and fulfill the obligations to Allah and to one another an oath, a promise, a contract, an agreement, a duty, matrimony, conduct, an act and the like. Commandments expressed by Allah represent His will relative to the conduct of His intelligent creatures. Thus, Allah rendered lawful the flesh of camels, cows, sheep and the live animals reared for food excepting those designated forbidden. Nor are you permitted to chase wild animals or game while you are on pilgrimage -major or minor- nor in the environs of the Sacrosanct Mosque. Allah ordains what He will.
[Progressive Muslims] : O you who believe, honour your contracts. Made lawful for you are all the animals of the livestock, except that which is being recited to you, and what you are not allowed to hunt of the game while you are under restriction. God decrees as He pleases.
Shabbir Ahmed : O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Fulfill your pledges and obligations. Permitted for you is the flesh of every beast that eats plants, except what is specifically forbidden in the Book. Allah has ordained that all hunting is prohibited during Hajj. Verily, Allah Ordains as He deems fit.
Shakir : O you who believe! fulfill the obligations. The cattle quadrupeds are allowed to you except that which is recited to you, not violating the prohibition against game when you are entering upon the performance of the pilgrimage; surely Allah orders what He desires.
Sher Ali : O ye who believe ! fulfill you compacts. Lawful are made to you quadrupeds of the class of cattle other than those which are being announced to you, except that you should not hold game to be lawful while you are in a state of pilgrimage; verily, ALLAH decrees what HE wills.
Syed Vickar Ahamed : O you who believe! Fulfill (all your) obligations. Lawful to you are all the beasts of cattle (animals, for food), except those named (below); Unlawful is the game (animals and creatures that you may chase to catch) when you are wearing the I’hram, (the special garments for Pilgrimage or Umrah): Surely, Allah commands what He wills.
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International) : O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts. Lawful for you are the animals of grazing livestock except for that which is recited to you [in this Qur'an] - hunting not being permitted while you are in the state of iúram. Indeed, Allah ordains what He intends.
Yusuf Ali : O ye who believe! fulfil (all) obligations. Lawful unto you (for food) are all four-footed animals, with the exceptions named: But animals of the chase are forbidden while ye are in the sacred precincts or in pilgrim garb: for Allah doth command according to His will and plan.
